Dorr is het soloproject van de in Groot-Brittannië geboren, in Frankrijk woonachtige producer/zanger/filmcomponist John Dorr.

De intieme diepe stem is verweven met gitaar, vaak bespeeld met ongebruikelijke voorwerpen (seksspeeltjes/ schroevendraaiers/ elektrische scheerapparaten) en gaat verder dan noise naar een diep emotionele en melodieuze wereld in de grote traditie van The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth en MBV. Deze centrale elementen worden verfraaid met elektronische loops en glitchy, bruisende beats. Het bombastische versmelt met het delicate.

Dorr was aanvankelijk autodidact, raakte al op jonge leeftijd gefascineerd door muziek en studeerde later klassieke compositie en harmonie. Dit leidde tot de oprichting van de neoklassieke/postrockband Stems (actief van 2012 tot 2019), waarmee hij veel door Europa toerde en verschillende albums uitbracht, waaronder een door het British Film Institute gefinancierde live soundtrack voor de stomme film ‘La voyage de la lune’ uit 1902 van Georges Méliès. Dit resulteerde in concerten met DJ Yoda, Russian Circles en festivals met Kraftwerk, Jarvis Cocker en anderen.

In 2024 werd zijn eerste speelfilmsoundtrack Between The Lights (Dir. Mike Groom) bekroond met de prijs voor beste soundtrack op het Richmond International Film Festival.

De film zelf won verschillende prijzen, waaronder die voor beste film op het Dances With Film Festival. De film kreeg lovende kritieken, met name van The Guardian en Variety, en is na een bioscooprun in het Verenigd Koninkrijk momenteel verkrijgbaar op Amazon/ Apple en Google play in het Engels in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en nagesynchroniseerd in het Spaans en Portugees voor de Latijns-Amerikaanse markt.

The intimate deep voice is woven with guitar, often played using unusual items (sex toys/ screwdrivers/ electric razors) going beyond noise into a deeply emotive and melodic world in the grand tradition of The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and MBV. These central elements are embellished with electronic loops and glitchy, fizzling beats. Fusing the bombastic with the delicate.

Dorr was initially self taught, becoming fascinated by music at an early age and later in life studying classical composition and harmony, leading to forming neo classic/ post rock band Stems (active from 2012 till 2019) with whom he toured Europe extensively, released several albums including a British Film Institute funded live soundtrack for the Georges Méliès 1902 silent film ‘La voyage de la lune’. Resulting in concerts with DJ Yoda, Russian Circles and festivals with Kraftwerk, Jarvis Cocker and more.

2024 saw his first feature film soundtrack Between The Lights (Dir. Mike Groom) earn best soundtrack at Richmond International film festival with the film itself winning several awards, including best film at Dances With Film Festival. It received positive reviews, most notably from The Guardian and Variety, and after a UK cinema run is currently available on Amazon/ Apple and Google play in UK English and dubbed in Spanish and Portuguese for the Latin American market.
